HOW IT STARTED…

Produced in Keswick since 2021, Lakes Limoncello started life as a recycling project at the town’s Wild Sheep Distillery (formerly Spirit of Keswick) to repurpose their gin ‘tails’. As it happened, they had recently been given a recipe for a Limoncello… Originally it was made for friends and family but was soon added to the distillery’s product list.

HOW IT’S MADE…

Traditionally, Limoncello is made of only 4 ingredients: Lemon zest, rectified spirit, sugar and water. There are many modern ‘twists’ on Limoncello, in fact we have produced one ourselves with our Limoncello Sour, but we wanted to get an authentic recipe nailed first. The result is exactly as it should be from the creamy mouthfeel to the fresh burst of lemon rind.

HOW IT’S GOING…

3 years on from our first bottles on shelves and Lakes Limoncello is moving in to it’s own, purpose built production unit, shop & tasting rooms in the town’s Packhorse Court. There you can visit us, find out more about our new cocktail Limoncello Sour and discover how a drink with it’s roots in Italy has grown to become a part of the Lake District’s Speciality food & drink scene!
